What you give up by choosing the economy line
It is worth being clear about this before comparing prices, because the differences can be checked in the manufacturer's catalog. Temperature precision is 1 °C, not 0.1 °C as on the compact and medium series. The interior is HIPS, not painted steel or aluminum. There is no USB port, and no model comes with casters.
The difference that weighs most in a laboratory working to a protocol is the set of alarms: it warns of high and low temperature, thermostat failure and open door, but not of a power cut. The higher series do, with eight hours of backup.
And the manufacturer does not state cool-down or recovery times for this line, two figures it does publish for the others. What is not stated cannot be required.
What it does keep
The 2 to 8 °C range, uniformity of ±2 °C and stability of ±3 °C are the same as on the higher series. So are the automatic defrost, the R600a refrigerant, the microprocessor control and the test port, which is what lets you verify the temperature with your own probe.
The glass door is electrically heated, so it does not fog over and the contents can be seen without opening it.
The four models grow in shelves, not only in liters
From 46 to 400 L, with 1, 3, 5 and 6 adjustable shelves. Power draw goes from 85 to 180 W and stops there: the 320 and 400 L models draw the same.
The weight goes from 21 to 71 kg. The 46 L model fits on a bench —480 × 460 × 585 mm—; the 400 L one is 1930 mm tall and needs a space of its own.
